Aireg takes another step towards DACH region

Environmental Sustainable fuels

Berlin - Aireg, the Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energies in Germany is very pleased to welcome Austrian Airlines as a new member.

Together with OMV, Austrian Airlines enhances the strategic direction in order to strengthen the research and development activities in Austria.

With Austrian, aireg not only gained another airline as valuable member, but also an important company from the DACH region. aireg´s target is the connecting of additional groups of members for research and development to build up alternative fuels in aviation.
Prof. Jürgen Raps, President of aireg mentioned: “I am delighted about the new membership of Austrian Airlines. Austrian is a very modern and innovative airline and we are more than happy for their joining. Together with other members, we now have the unique opportunity to persue the introduction of alternative fuels in aviation in Vienna.”

“Austrian Airlines is carrying out numerous initiatives in the fields of environmental protection, sustainability and efficiency“, says Austrian Airlines CEO Kay Kratky. “For example, fuel efficiency measures are being implemented to cut fuel consumption and thus reduce CO₂ emissions. In this way, Austrian Airlines has been able to save close to four percent of the required kerosene use per 100 passenger kilometers since the year 2008. Regardless of this, flight traffic will have to increasingly depend on alternative fuels in the future in order to be able to neutralize the CO₂ emissions arising as a result of the predicted growth in flight traffic.”
