Sustainable jet fuel

Environmental Sustainable fuels

In its pioneering role to create a long-term sustainable future for aviation, SkyNRG was established to be a global market leader for sustainable jet fuel.

One of the most remarkable aspects of SkyNRG is that their sustainable jet fuel is produced with the Hydro-processed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) technology.

Producing sustainable jet fuel starts with sourcing sustainable feedstock and, as most of the sustainability impacts of biofuels are linked to the feedstock, SkyNRG have chosen to focus on waste streams (e.g. waste vegetable oil, forestry residues, MSW municipal solid waste) and non-food energy crops (e.g. non-edible oils, lingo-cellulosics).

Before the feedstock is ready for refining, it must be cleaned (i.e. pre-treated), meaning impurities have to be removed from the waste-oils, or the oil has to be extracted from the fruits or seeds. This pre-treatment process yields waste- and vegetable oils that are ready for refining into sustainable jet fuel. After pre-treating the feedstock, the waste- and vegetable oils are ready to be converted into high-quality sustainable jet fuel. Once the HEFA jet fuel has been produced and certified, it needs to be blended with fossil jet fuel to conform to the jet fuel specifications.

SkyNRG delivers sustainable jet fuel, from feedstock to flight. Although this process can be quite challenging because no airport is standard when it comes to logistics, depending on the airport and customer wishes, refuelling takes place via an underground pipeline network or with a (dedicated) refuelling truck.
