Air transport supports 40.1 million jobs and $2.2 trillion in GDP in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries. That is 2.7% of all employment and 4.3% of all GDP in the APEC countries in 2018.
APEC economies
The air transport industry in APEC economies generated an estimated 6.7 million direct jobs in 2018, broken down as follows:
- Airline workers: 2.1 million (31% of the total)
- Airport operators: 316,000 (5%)
- Other on-airport roles: 3.3 million (49%)
- Civil aerospace jobs: 886,000 (13%)
- Air navigation service providers: 115,000 (2%)
In 2018, the operations of businesses within the air transport sector directly generated a $615 billion contribution to GDP.
